William McLeod

After practicing law at a small litigation firm for almost two years in Hartford Connecticut, William McLeod moved his practice to Boston in 1993. In 2004, McLeod Law Offices, PC was founded. In addition to the Connecticut and Massachusetts state courts, he has litigated cases in the United States District Courts for the Districts of Massachusetts and Connecticut, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, as well as the United States Bankruptcy Court in Massachusetts. He has argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

Attorney McLeod is a member of the Bankruptcy Section of the Boston Bar Association (Co-Chair, Consumer Committee), the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys the American Bankruptcy Institute, as well as the Real Estate Bar Association for Massachusetts (REBA).

Mr. McLeod wrote "Holding Chapter 13 Section 341(a) Meetings Open and Dismissal or Conversion under Section 1707" which addressed the new requirements that chapter 13 debtors must abide since the enactment of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005. The article appeared in the April 2008 edition of the ABI Journal.

In addition to writing articles of interest for the legal community for Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, Attorney McLeod was a contributing author to the legal desk reference for physicians, The Biggest Legal Mistakes Physicians Make and How To Avoid Them. He authored two sections: "The 10 Biggest Mistakes Physician Make in Dealing with Bankruptcy Counsel" and "The 10 Biggest Legal Mistakes Physicians Make Before and During the Bankruptcy Process." This authoritative reference is available directly from the publisher, SEAK, Inc. Before Congress passed the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005, Attorney McLeod authored an op-ed in the Boston Globe, urging leaders to consider the important issues faced by people struggling with debt.

He received his Juris Doctor from Western New England School of Law in Springfield, Massachusetts and obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Salve Regina College (now known as Salve Regina University ) in Newport, Rhode Island.
